Selene supports in contributing to the development and implementation of popular education workshops and trainings to foster diverse leadership and community engagement. She also maintains connections and relationships with on campus groups and/or individuals and alumni of leadership development activities to support ongoing engagement in the policy process.
Before joining the Budget & Tax Center as an intern to assistant in 2024, Selene was finishing up her last year at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked as a part-time Visitor Services and Security Assistant at the Weatherspoon Art Museum for over year where she oversaw the safety of artworks and assisted in gallery events. Prior to that, Selene studied abroad in Nagoya, Japan during the spring of 2023 where she was able to learn about the Japanese educational system and how globalization is influencing subcultures across Japan.
Selene was born and raised in North Carolina, where she has grown to love the South. She has ancestral roots to the Otomí Pueblo in Mexico which has laid the foundation for her grassroots organizing. She has been involved with climate justice and political education advocacy since high school. On her free time, Selene enjoys making art, reading fantasy and sci-fi books, and surrounding herself with plants.
