Maria builds policymaker and partner will for economic policy that advances solutions to poverty and racial equity. She leads and supports policy and legislative campaigns and connects those directly impacted by poverty and historically excluded, with the policy process. Before joining the Budget & Tax Center in 2024, Maria held roles at El Pueblo and La Fuerza NC, as well as Student Action with Farmworkers. In these roles, she led legislative and civic engagement campaigns as well as student programs focused on protecting and uplifting the rights of immigrants, farmworkers, and the Latine community with a special focus on immigration policy and student leadership development.  Maria was born in Mexico City and raised in rural North Carolina, and she enjoys Latin American literature, practicing yoga, cooking for friends, and going on long walks.   Contact me about:
