{"id":11153,"date":"2024-03-14T10:58:16","date_gmt":"2024-03-14T14:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/?p=11153"},"modified":"2024-03-14T11:06:59","modified_gmt":"2024-03-14T15:06:59","slug":"our-website-has-gotten-an-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/our-website-has-gotten-an-upgrade\/","title":{"rendered":"Our website has gotten an upgrade!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve been on our website since March 1, you may have noticed it looks a lot different.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when we launched our new, revamped website, which we\u2019ve been working on for more than a year now, and we\u2019re very excited to finally be able to share it with the world!<\/p>\n<p>So, what\u2019s new?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve added a lot of features to improve accessibility and usability on our site \u2013 some very noticeable, and some under the hood but just as important.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few things we hope will make our website a better experience for all of you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Search: <\/strong>We heard you! We\u2019ve been wanting to add a robust and easy-to-use way for folks to find things on our website for awhile now, but we wanted to make sure to do it right. We now have a search box at the top of every page on our site. We also have a <a href=\"https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/research-data\/\">filterable search page <\/a>you can use, as well, where you can search by post type, topic, and date.<\/li>\n<li><strong>More responsive design:<\/strong> We worked with a fantastic team behind the scenes on our site to make sure it is easy to use on any screen size, from your phone to your laptop screen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accessibility and usability features:<\/strong> It may be subtle in how it shows up, but we had a lot of discussions about things like our fonts and our colors, to make sure the site is as readable as possible for everyone, including folks with low vision or dyslexia. For example, our body text, <a href=\"https:\/\/fonts.google.com\/specimen\/Lexend\/about\">Lexend,<\/a> is a set of fonts \u201cintended to reduce visual stress and so improve reading performance. Initially they were designed with dyslexia and struggling readers in mind,\u201d but they ended up helping all readers. We also ran our colors through several tests to make sure they work for folks with color-blindess or low vision. And we have some more things we\u2019re hoping to roll out throughout 2024 to improve things for everyone even more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>We re-organized things: <\/strong>We also spent a lot of time re-organizing our site in a way that we hope it makes it easier to see all of what we do at the NC Budget &amp; Tax Center, and to make it easier to find tools and resources you may not have know we offer. We have navigation at the top and bottom of every page on the site that will help you get around.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11155 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-14-103216.png\" alt=\"screenshot of the navigation on NCBudget.org\" width=\"802\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-14-103216.png 802w, https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-14-103216-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/ncbudget.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Screenshot-2024-03-14-103216-768x513.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 802px) 100vw, 802px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While we\u2019re excited about our new website, we know it\u2019s always going to be a work in progress. We have some more ideas we\u2019re excited to work on and hopefully launch later this year. We also want to hear from you now about what you think \u2013 is there something we could do to make it even more usable and accessible for everyone that we may have missed?
